"Corvisart really created cardiac symptomatology and made possible the differentiation between cardiac and pulmonary disorders. He was the first to explain heart failure mechanically and to describe the dyspnoea of effort. His translation of Auenbrugger's book on percussion resulted in the universal adoption of that procedure. Corvisart was Napoleon's favourite physician." GM 2737. Facsimile of the Boston, 1812 edition. The Auenbrugger is a facsimile of the 1824 edition.

His little book met with a cold reception, while a French translation by Rozière de la Chassagne in 1770 attracted little notice. But Auenbrugger lived to see the appearance in 1808 of J. N. Corvisart's classic translation of the book, after which the value of percussion was universally recognized.' See annotation to Garrison-Morton 2672 for this edition by Henry Sigerist.
