To honour Alfred Fairbank on his eightieth birthday in July 1975, The Merrion Press in England, and David Godine in the United States are pubhshing this facsimile of the superb writing manual of Augustino da Siena with an introduction specially written by Alfred Fairb…ank, probably the most distinguished scribe and calligraphic scholar in the Western World. This first modern critical edition has been prepared from the British Museum copy of the 1568 edition, of which the only other known copy is in Florence. The text is set in I3pt Monotype Poliphilus and Blado and is printed on mould/made paper from the Wookey Hole Mill, Somerset. The binding is in Relon 'Terre de Cuivre' made by Rougier & Ple', Paris, and the endpapers are Ingres 'Tabac' made by Canson & Montgolfier, Paris. The brasses were cut by Mackrell of Essex and Avison of London. The jacket paper is 'Tre Kronor' from the Tumba Mill, Stockholm. The book was designed by Montague and Susan Shaw, printed by Vivian Ridier at The University Press, Oxford, and bound by Bookbinders of London.Limited / Numbered / Edition. This book is copy number 166 of a limited edition. This book is one of 300 published by Merrion Press a further 450 nos, 301 -750 are published in the USA. The Dust jacket complete. Brown cloth with bright gilt titling on spine. Bright gilt decoration on upper cover. No ownership inscription.
