Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a practical understanding of the history and fundamental principles of Phonography: an innovative shorthand system developed by Isaac Pitman in the 19th Century. Originating from phonetic principles, the author demonstrates how even today, Phonography can be effecti…vely implemented by teachers, professionals, and students alike. The author explores the many benefits of Phonography such as the significant reduction in time spent learning the writing and printing process, the ease with which it can be written and read (even by individuals who have never encountered Phonography before), and the relatively low cost of printing Phonographic texts. This book will prove valuable to educators, students, historians, and anyone with an interest in the history of writing systems. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. 5th or later Edition. I am pleased to be able to offer an early book about phonography- the writing system that uses individual symbols to represent the sounds of speech rather than whole words or concepts. Please find on offer here a vintage book titled: "The Phongraphic Reader: A Complet…e Course of Inductive Reading Lessons in Phonography" by S. P. Andrews and Augustus F. Boyle. This small hard cover book was published and sold by John F. Trow of New York; this copy is marked the "Sixteenth Edition", dated 1850. This book includes about 25 pages of Introduction with the remaining 35 pages offering a catalogue of the Symbols. Following the 60 pages of text, there are another 8 pages with a List of Publications by the publisher. Condition: This book is in good condition, only. The hard covers are darkened, stained and bumped (please see the photos) without ever obscuring the text of the book. Inside, a former owner has stamped his name on both endpapers but those are the only marks I found in the book. There is some staining and toning to the early and late pages of the book and the interior pages have some random soiling and very light foxing. Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
