Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a groundbreaking exploration of how alternating mechanical stresses impact the durability of materials, unlocking a fresh understanding of material behavior under strain. Its theoretical framework and practical applications provide a foundation for evaluating and designing constructions for enhanced longevity. The author extends Hodgkinson's groundbreaking research on the elasticity of iron to include the impact of stress duration, introducing a formula that quantifies how materials weaken over time. This concept is then applied to various engineering scenarios, demonstrating how factors like stress magnitude, duration, and material properties influence component lifespan. The book delves into real-world examples, including the fatigue analysis of locomotive axles and steam boiler components. It also examines the implications for structures enduring cyclical stress patterns, such as bridges and springs. By incorporating the concept of time into the analysis, this book revolutionizes the field of material strength evaluation, improving the safety and reliability of engineering constructions. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
