Gerichtet ist er an einen Hamburger Lehrer Georg Clasen (geb. 28.01.1881 Hamburg-Rothenburgsort, gest. 27.02.1968), dessen Exlibris vorn (Einband innen) aufgeklebt ist. Der Brief hat folgenden Wortlaut (Es wird nur ein Teil hier wiedergegeben): d. 12.3.24. Lieber Herr Clasen, nun ich Lebe" noch einmal gelesen habe, möchte ich Ihnen doch noch ein paar Worte schreiben. Ich wollte nur, ich hätte doch gleich damals meinen Eindruck Ihnen mitgeteilt. Mit großer Mühe habe ich mich gezwungen, das Buch noch einmal mir laut vorzulesen und hab dann gleich gemerkt, sdaß der Stil nicht so flott wegzulesen ist. Sie werden sich wundern, daß ich mit großer Mühe" schreibe; aber es hat mich auch diesmal nicht gepackt, ja wohl noch weniger gesagt, als damals, da Sie es vorlasen. Ich mußte beim Lesen an einen Glockengießer denken, der eine Meisterglocke(n) mit vollem tiefen Klang gießen wollte, dem aber die Kraft fehlte, und die fertige Glocke tönte dünn und der Klang war gleich verweht. Mit dem Lesen war auch der Eindruck wieder verschwunden. - Einige Bleistiftnotizen im Buch.".
