It also presents a critical reflection of the contemporary cost reduction paradigm.Design/methodology/approach - Review of literature from a wide range of academic disciplines and practitioners.Findings - In the realm of contemporary workplace solutions there is little evidence to be found of an evolution of CREM towards a truly strategic discipline but it still appears to be focused on operational metrics in the aftermath of the greatest recession after World War II.Originality/value - This paper integrates findings and theories from different disciplines in order to create a contextual understanding about the nature of knowledge work and the requirements for productivity-focussed workplace solutions in multinational professional services firms.

As for the franchisor perspective, a major focus was put on the management of potential areas of conflict between power and control along the lifecycle of a franchise relationship.Anecdotal evidence from a convenience sample of three business format franchise systems highlight the importance of intangible indicators for the quality of professional services in customers' decision-making with brand as the driving factor for franchisees' motivation, whereas training especially prior to opening seems to be less crucial than franchise theory suggests. The possibility to blueprint professional services and real estate brokerage services in particular is limited due to the heterogeneity of properties and local market conditions, for instance. Because of divergent economies of scale especially with regard to information technology resources, network effects also play an important role. Both franchisors and franchisees agreed on the significantly increased efficiency of franchise owners compared to branch managers. No major differences have been found in the terms and conditions of the franchise agreements.

Diese Arbeit versucht, vor allem der Ortsgebundenheit von Immobilien und der daraus resultierenden Bildung regionaler Teilmärkte Rechnung zu tragen. Damit grenzt sie sich deutlich von anderen makroökonomischen Publikationen ab, die allesamt einen aggregierten nationalen (westdeutschen) Immobilienmarkt untersuchen, und greift dabei die jüngst in der Wirtschaftstheorie wiederentdeckte Regionalökonomie in ihrer Bedeutung für regionale Immobilienmärkte auf.Im übrigen erfolgt eine in der deutschen Literatur unübliche Konzentration auf den Eigenheimmarkt.Der Autor erarbeitet eine vor dem Hintergrund der herrschenden Datenlage bemerkenswerte Datenbasis mit aktuellen Zeitreihen über bis zu 20 Jahre.Immobilien werden in der Öffentlichkeit als eine sichere Wertanlage gesehen. Es herrscht die Meinung vor, daß Immobilien inflationssicher sind und im Zeitablauf zusätzlich mit erheblichen Wertsteigerungen zu rechnen ist. Der Autor geht in seiner Arbeit der Frage nach, welche reale Preisentwicklung bei Eigenheimen in westdeutschen Städten (Groß- und Oberzentren) in den letzten 20 Jahren zu beobachten war. Gleichzeitig sucht er nach Faktoren, die die evidenten regionalen Unterschiede sowohl hinsichtlich des Niveaus der Preise als auch deren Entwicklung erklären können.Ziel der Arbeit ist die Prüfung, inwieweit sich der hypothetische positive Zusammenhang zwischen der Wertentwicklung von Eigenheimmärkten und der allgemeinen Wirtschaftsentwicklung einzelner Stadtregionen empirisch nachweisen läßt und von welcher Stärke dieser gegebenenfalls ist. Als Nebenhypothesen werden außerdem die Beziehungen zwischen dem Niveau der Eigenheimpreise und dem von Wirtschafts- und Agglomerationskennzahlen untersucht.Methodisch wurde der empirische Teil der Arbeit (Teil B) auf die Anwendung der Korrelations- und Regressionsanalyse angelegt. Letztere setzt eine Hypothese über die angenommene - weil sachlogisch plausible - Ursache-Wirkungs-Beziehung, d.h. die Richtung und Art des Zusammenhangs, voraus.
