Both economies have shown tremendous growth rates over the last years. However are both countries different and have chosen a completely different growth model. While China pursued a top-down investment, FDI and production driven path, focused India on an indigenous, service industry orientated growth model. China was able to outperform India in economic terms so far but which of the both growth models is the more sustainable one This question is to be answered in this article. In section 2 both growth models will be portrayed. In order to answer the question which model is more sustainable the term of sustainability will be defined at the beginning of section 3 before the three different spheres of sustainability will be analyzed. The paper will end in chapter 4 with a conclusion, which is providing an answer to the original question and will also address future challenges for both countries in order to sustain its growth.

Founded in 1990, after leaving the communist Federal Republic Yugoslavia, it was one of the first new eastern member states of the EU and the first Eastern-European country which introduced the EURO in 2007. In this paper the transformation process of Slovenia will be analyzed in detail. After a review of Slovenia's history and its development in Yugoslavia, the initial conditions of the transformation will be described. In the following the transformation process will be dissected. Therefore the political transformation, the liberalization and the market transformation, the privatization and the developments in the financial sector will be portrayed before the entire transformation process will be evaluated. Furthermore the accession to the EU and the EURO zone will be examined, before two current problems, the demographic change and the financial crisis, will be analyzed. At the end of this paper stands a conclusion why Slovenia's transformation was successful and which parts of it fell short.

Dabei stellt sich zwangsläufig die Frage, ob und wie die EU der Krise entgegenwirken kann. Im Mittelpunkt der Arbeit steht mit dem Stabili-täts- und Wachstumspakt (SWP) das Instrument, welches eine hohe Staatsverschuldung der EURO-Länder regulieren und übermäßige Defizite bestrafen soll.Am Anfang der Ausarbeitung steht eine theoretische Einleitung über die Thematik der Staats-verschuldung. Neben einer Einführung warum und wie sich Staaten verschulden, werden in der nächsten Sektion Auswirkungen der Staatsverschuldung auf Staaten dargestellt und In-strumente vorgestellt, wie Staatsschulden abgebaut werden können. Nach diesem theoreti-schen Teil wird die Geschichte des SWP präsentiert. Neben seiner ursprünglichen Fassung in den Maastrichter Verträgen wird die Entwicklung der Staatsverschuldung nach seiner Einfüh-rung betrachtet, bevor auf die Reform des SWP von 2005 und seine Änderungen eingegangen wird. Das Kapitel 3 wird durch die Darstellung der Entwicklungen der Staatsverschuldung nach der Reform und während der Finanzkrise abgeschlossen. Kapitel 4 beschäftigt sich mit der Kritik am SWP, bevor in Kapitel 5 ein Fazit gezogen wird, ob der SWP gescheitert ist oder nicht, und es wird ein Ausblick auf zukünftige Entwicklungen des SWP gegeben.
