Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. In this book Redeeming the Wounded you will hear from a chaplain who ministered to prisoners and to crime victims who have experienced the homicide of a loved one. Crime hurts us all and this book reveals there are spiritual and practical ways to enable the process of healing the wounds and repairing the harm. _______________________________________________________________________ Rev. Dr. B. Bruce Cook has been the inspiration behind substantive victim's rights legislation in Georgia for the last twenty- five years. He enlightens the world with his vision of a restored segment of American society - that of victims of crime. He exposes the gap between criminal justice and victim justice. This book will be an invaluable resource for support groups, victim advocates and organizations that provide training for those entering the field of victim services. Elaine & Gordon Rondeau Co-Founders, The Renee Olubunmi Rondeau Peace Foundation _______________________________________________________________________ Bruce Cook's experience as crime victim, correctional chaplain and crime victim counselor provides the foundation for a very useful book for anyone considering ministry in the midst of the contemporary justice complex. Through the lens of his life and experience the reader is challenged to recognize that ministry is where retributive and restorative patterns of justice intersect. This book could be an invaluable resource for those contemplating the chaplaincy field in criminal justice or lay ministry to crime victims and prisoners Patricia Barrett Former Assistant General Secretary, Division of Ordained Ministry, GBHEM, United Methodist Church _______________________________________________________________________ Rev. Dr. B. Bruce Cook served as a county jail chaplain, federal prison chaplain and a chaplain for crime victims for decades. He recounts struggles he encountered to change prisoners and to facilitate the healing of crime victims after a serious, violent crime. He believes criminals should make amends for the harm they caused and suggests ways to do so.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Rev. Bruce Cook's life is a testament to the transforming power of a spirit-led walk of faith, so it is only fitting that his latest work powerfully remind us all that the path to a Christ-like life is found by staying in step with the Spirit. In this engaging and inspiring book, Rev. Cook mixes pointedly compelling anecdotes with clearly dawn, accessible theological of the Holy Spirit. Heart-felt and deeply satisfying, I pray In Step With the Spirit will renew each reader's passion for a life that is never out of step. William H. Coffey, JD, MA, Bible Teacher Dr. Cook's treatment of the Holy Spirit taught me things I did not know about the Holy Spirit and Trinity. His section on Technology and the Arts was very illuminating because he sees a message and metaphor for Spirit in modern films that I have never seen more clearly depicted. This book can sharpen a believer's faith and challenge the unfaithful to take a serious look at the reality and presence of the Holy Spirit. It is written from a retired UMC Chaplain's experience with the elderly, prisoners and crime victims. Steve Maddox, Retired Song Executive Vice-President, Pictures and Television This book stretched my mind to include Biblical understandings, terms, and theological concepts about the Holy Spirit that I had never considered before. The idea that the Holy Spirit is limitless and free to guide us today with many ethical decisions we face is helpful and encouraging to me. Jane Ann Harper, Retired Teacher.…

[1st ed.], 1st printing ; 236 p. illus. 24 cm ; LCCN: 54-5955 ; LC: Z49A1; Dewey: 652.309 ; OCLC: 343148 ; decorative green cloth ; no dustjacket ; ex-lib, stamps, labels, date due, pocket, reinforced binding ; "the sturdy old typewriter, and this biography of a machine might just catch on. It's fun reading and conveys the vim and zest it imparts to our bustling economy and its inevitable facet, office life. It starts with a sparkling tribute to the girl secretary, as she led the invasion of the sacred portals, via the machine. Bliven has a facility in enlivening what might have been dull reportage of an invention that revolutionized communication at local level. Henry Mill of England worked on the idea in 1714; William Austin Burt of Michigan was the first American to pick it up, thought it just a byproduct but patented it in 1829. After an interim of fifty two dabblers in the invention came Sholes of Milwaukee, who put it on its keys. From then on- the histories and struggles of such household names as Remington, Underwood and Smith; of Mark Twain who thought the typewriter "too curiosity breeding"; of the novel The Typewriter Girl whose doughty heroine proved she knew more ways than one. Bliven did his research at the Royal plant, so there's more about Royals than the others, but in the main it is a tribute to all models, and may pass a speed test in unexpected sales. "--Kirkus ; Contents: Girl in the office -- The wonderful writing machine -- Burt's necessity -- By Jingo! It prints -- The 1881 Revolution -- Inventors are never satisfied -- Salesmen and thieves -- Race against time -- No longer funny -- Portables by parachute -- Adjuster at work -- Quality counts ; G. Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 1996 Sutton Publishing large format hardcover edition plus microfiche. Light reading wear else very good condition. This volume represents the second report on a major project of archaeological survey and excavation carried out between 1974 and 1982 by the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project (VESARP) based at Durham University, together with subsequent work by VESARP on an archival project and reports on fieldwork by other archaeologists between 1978 and 1989 in the area. Birsay Bay Project Volume 1 was concerned with the Brough Road excavations 1976-82. This volume looks at sites in Birsay Village and on the Brough of Birsay. The archaeological importance and significance of the Birsay Bay area of Orkney, particularly in the Viking and Late Norse periods, is again demonstrated in this volume which concerns itself with the well-known monuments of St Magnus' Kirk, the Earl's Palace and the Brough of Birsay, together with the newly-identified site at Beachview, immediately to the south of the Burn of Boardhouse in Birsay Village. The work directed by John Barber on the St Magnus' Kirk site has demonstrated the existence of remains of earlier ecclesiastical structures below the present building and contributes new information to the discussion of the location of the Christchurch Minster of the Orkneyinga Saga, as well as demonstrating the presence of a primary burnt mound on the site. Excavations by John Lewis and Beverley Ballin Smith at the Earl's Palace, together with renewed analysis of historical documentation by Denys Pringle, enable an up-to-date assessment to be made of the significance of this second major historic monument in the area of Birsay Village. Detailed analyses by Norman Emery and Christopher Morris of the unpublished records of the work on the Brough of Birsay between 1934 and 1939 are here presented for the first time. They demonstrate that this work uncovered a major complex of structures of the Pictish, Viking and Late Norse periods around a small church, itself discovered in 1866 by Sir Henry Dryden, whose work is also assessed here by Richard Fawcett.…
