From the Foreword: "The emphasis in that volume was on the palynostratigraphic and source rock evaluation of the different basins and the tectonic structure and lithostratigraphic classification of each basin as worked out by the ONGC. As a sequel to this introductory volume, Mehrotra, Venkatachala and Kapoor have now furnished more important details about the spatial and temporal distribution of the significant spores, pollen and dinoflagellate cysts in the Mesozoic-Cenozoic sediments of the petroliferous basins. The most valuable part of the contribution is the 45 Range Charts summarizing the large volume of data. These are presented in colour to add to their usefulness. A valuable bibliography is appended which will aid workers in further exploration. The volume has a concluding chapter on the evolution of angiosperms, plate tectonics and implications in the exploration of hydrocarbons.".
