A first edition and first printing in flawless condition; both book and dj. Series: Princess Diaries. Princess Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo may seem the luckiest girl ever. -- She's a princess, for starters. She also lives in New York City. And while she's no supermodel, mirrors do not crack at her reflection. Best of all, she finally has a boyfriend. -- The truth is, however, that Mia spends all her time doing one of three things: preparing for her nerve-racking entrée into Genovian society under the slave-driving but elegant Grandmére, slogging through congestion unique to Manhattan in December, and avoiding further smooches from her hapless boyfriend, Kenny. -- All she wants is a little peace and quiet.and a certain someone else to be her boyfriend. For Mia, being a princess in love is not the fairy tale it's supposed to be.or is it? In a series of humorous diary entries, a New York City ninth grader agonizes over her love life, final exams, and future role as the princess of Genovia. [T]old in perfect teenage vernacular. The third in the series.has the best ending yet, which proves that princesses--even tall, flat-chested, algebraically challenged ones--always find true love. -- Kirkus Reviews  (04/01/2002) -- Cabot still makes the most of her heroine's appealing situation, however, and Mia's comedic overwhelmedness, reminiscent of Rennison's ANGUS, THONGS, AND FULL-FRONTAL SNOGGING, remains funny and readable.

Trade paperback. Condizione: Very good. AM 6 Back (illustratore). First Paperback Edition. First Printing. 383, [1] pages. Illustrations. Index. Introduction by Neil Armstrong. Cover has slight wear and soiling. Rear Admiral Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr. (November 18, 1923 - July 21, 1998) was an American astronaut, naval aviator, test pilot, and businessman. Shepard was designated as the commander of the first manned Project Gemini mission, but was grounded in 1963 due to Ménière's disease, an ailment that caused episodes of extreme dizziness and nausea. This was corrected in 1969, and in 1971, Shepard commanded the Apollo 14 mission, piloting the Apollo Lunar Module to the most accurate landing of the Apollo missions. Donald Kent "Deke" Slayton (March 1, 1924 - June 13, 1993), was an American World War II pilot, aeronautical engineer, test pilot who was selected as one of the original NASA Mercury Seven astronauts, and became NASA's first Chief of the Astronaut Office. Slayton was selected to pilot the second U.S. manned orbital spaceflight, but was grounded in 1962 by atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm. He then served as NASA's Director of Flight Crew Operations, making him responsible for crew assignments at NASA from November 1963 until March 1972. Derived from a Kirkus review: The story of America's space race with the Soviet Union and the scramble to put a man on the moon, by two who were there. Shepard and Slayton, both Mercury Seven astronauts. It begins with an account of the Eagle's landing on the moon's surface, then backtracks to the beginning of the superpower missile competition in the late 1940s. They point out that the US missile expertise was set up in Huntsville, Ala., by Wernher von Braun, the German missile genius captured from the defeated Third Reich. A German team constructed the Redstone and Jupiter rockets. The American public was traumatized by a 1,000-pound Soviet satellite zooming across its airspace, and von Braun got the green light to launch a smaller American satellite at once. The authors turn to the later Apollo missions, which they cover in detail, as well as the eventual Soyuz-Apollo mission, a Soviet-US cooperative effort. Interesting historical material is related, complete with dramatic re-enactments, as if the writing committee -- there are four listed authors -- had decided they needed swashbuckling prose to enliven the material. Moon Shot quite readable and detailed.

Illustrated with three sections of black-and-white photographic plates and one section of color photographic plates. "An inspiring and intimate self-portrait by Billie Jean King, the champion of equality, that encompasses her brillinat tennis career and unwavering commitment to social justice even as she was engaged in a private struggle to publicly and unequivocally be her true self. Billie Jean King was the first of her kind, a woman athlete who became a global cultural icon because of her pioneering activism as much as her spectacular playing career. A handful of other female athletes had taken stands here or there before, but King was the first to outwardly rebel and then carry the fight for women as a group. She is an original. Her watershed "Battle of the Sexes: match against Bobby Riggs in 1973 was watched by an estimated 90 million people worldwide. What started for King as a young girl's quest for individual freedom expanded into broader issues over time. In this spirited account, King describes the rollicking early days of the pro tennis world she pushed to create and her evolution into a thirty-nine-time Grand Slam champion, an activist, a feminist, a political influencer, and a public figure who was at first so fearful of admitting her sexual identity, and then so closeted once she did, her physical and emotional health suffered. King recounts in vivid detail the cultural backdrop of those years and the profound impact on her worldview from the civil rights movement, the women's movement, the Cold War, the assassinations and antiwar protests of the 1960s, and, later, the LGBTQ+ rights movement. She poignantly describes her oft-submerged struggle to be her "authentic self" - the hard-won place where her public and private lives converged, though not until the age of fifty-one, after she narrowly averted financial peril when she was outed and sought in-patient treatment for an eating disorder fourteen years later. All In is a bracingly candid and complex autobiography of an athlete-activist that reminds us of the scale of her challenges and triumphs, vision and courage. As King notes, so many of the issues she and others have fougnt for are being reargued today. All In situates King in a new context - the here and now - looking backward (and forward) with the benefit of her accumulated wisdom, grace, and insights. The result is the story of a woman with an indomitable spirit who continues to advocate for equity and inclusion today." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps.

Includes List of Other Books by President Jimmy Carter; Author Dedication; Acknowledgments; Index; Photo Credits and About the Author. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs. "In an American story of enduring importance, Jimmy Carter re-creates his Depression-era boyhood on a Georgia farm, before the civil rights movement that changed it and the country. In what is sure to become a classic, the bestselling author of Living Faith and Sources of Strength writes about the powerful rhythms of countryside and community in a sharecropping economy. Along the way, he offers an unforgettable portrait of his father, a brilliant farmer and strict segregationist who treated black workers with his own brand of "separate" respect and fairness, and his strong-willed and well-read mother, a nurse who cared for all in need -- regardless of their position in the community. Carter describes the five other people who shaped his early life, only two of them white: his eccentric relatives who sometimes caused the boy to examine his heritage with dismay; the boyhood friends with whom he hunted with slingshots and boomerangs and worked the farm, but who could not attend the same school; and the eminent black bishop who refused to come to the Carters' back door but who would stand near his Cadillac in the front yard discussing crops and politics with Jimmy's father. Carter's clean and eloquent prose evokes a time when the cycles of life were predictable and simple and the rules were heartbreaking and complex. In his singular voice and with a novelist's gift for detail, Jimmy Carter creates a sensitive portrait of an era that shaped the nation. An Hour Before Daylight is destined to stand with other timeless works of American literature." -- from the inner front jacket flap.
