La civiltà occidentale si è costituita in una dinamica concettuale, sensibile e immaginativa essenzialmente centrata su un approccio visivo della realtà. Il mondo è stato guardato, scrutato, osservato, esaminato, analizzato; raramente ascoltato. Con il neologismo acustinario l'autore propone una nuova dimensione acustico-sonora dell'immaginario, attenta all'universo dei suoni e da questi fecondata, ripercorrendo alcune tappe e problematiche fondamentali del concetto da lui forgiato negli anni Ottanta. Immaginare diversamente significa non soltanto concepire diversamente, ma anche sentire differentemente. A questa dimensione del sentire viene dunque ricondotta l'estetica superando in tal modo la visione hegeliana che l'aveva teorizzata unicamente come filosofia dell'arte. Così intese, le problematiche estetiche più attuali vengono prese in esame in un approccio complesso, al contempo estetico, ecologico e immaginativo, che propone un nuovo ascolto del mondo: l'ecosofia sonora. Decolonizzare l'immaginario vuol dire pertanto nuova capacità d'intendere e di sentire per affrontare le future decisive sfide dell'umana sopravvivenza. Già preesistenti all'urgenza pandemica planetaria, queste infatti persistono nella loro minacciosa incombenza.
