Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The archaeological site of Svinjaricka Cuka, which is situated on a slightly elevated river terrace in southern Serbia, has been the subject of investigation by an international research team since 2018 as part of an interdisciplinary Austrian-Serbian collaboration. The prehistoric occupati…on of the terrace dates back to the early Neolithic period and extends through the Copper and Bronze ages into the Iron Age. The most important scientific data on the Neolithisation process in Serbia and a representative selection of the most significant finds from the first excavation campaigns are presented for the first time in this bilingual (English and Serbian) volume accompanying the permanent exhibition at the National Museum in Leskovac. Evidence of a permanent, solid built architecture of the Neolithic Starcevo culture from around 6000 BCE and the rich find assemblages provide an insight into the material culture of the first sedentary societies practising agriculture in a region that links the cultures of the Mediterranean with those of the Danube region along the major river corridors. The individual chapters not only provide an overview of the excavation results and the material data, but also of the landscape of the Leskovac Basin and the discovery of the site with the help of systematic surveys and geophysical prospection methods. In addition, this book provides insights into the diverse application of multi-disciplinary methods in the evaluation of finds (such as micromorphology, use-wear and residue analyses, and radiocarbon dating) and into the extensive sampling programme of archaeological, geological, anthropological, archaeozoological and archaeobotanical material using state-of-the-art scientific analyses in laboratories. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The 5th volume of the publication series Oriental and European Archaeology represents the overture of the Cukurici Hoyuk final publications. The prehistoric tell site at the Aegean coast of Turkey close to the antique metropolis of Ephesos has been excavated between 2007 and 2014. The study… includes a general outline of the research project, its main methodological and analytical approaches, and its main outcome after seven excavation seasons in chapter 1. A list of all currently published papers and books should offer the reader further detail aspects, which are not repeated in this volume. Chapters 2 to 6 deal with several new results of Cukurici Hoyuk research in a diachronic perspective. The Neolithic settlements dating to the 7th millennium BC are presented in aspects of technology and raw material procurement. Especially, the role of pressure technology in the Neolithisation process is widely discussed to contextualise the 7th millennium lithic assemblage of the site in broader cultural developments. The Late Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age settlements of 4th and 3rd millennia BC are presented in various aspects highlighting distinct regional and trans-regional networks. Two marble figurines of that date are used to re-evaluate the origin and development of early schematic figurines in western Anatolia and the Aegean. The analysed textile production in 4th and 3rd millennia demonstrates shared commonalities and regional connectivities as well. The micro-analyses of an Early Bronze Age metal workshop reconstruct the continuities and changes within a few generations. The diachronic pottery analyses are offering not only the main ceramic fabrics based on petrography and geochemistry from 7th to 3rd millennium BC; also the detected clay sources in the region are presented and discussed for the first time. All detail studies of the Cukurici Hoyuk 1 volume are embedded in a broader Aegean-Anatolian view to gain a sustainable cultural and geographical contextualisation of the excavation results. This volume forms the overture of the Cukurici Hoyuk final publications. Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Today archaeometric approaches to pottery are commonly utilised in Aegean Bronze Age archaeology. Pottery experts in the Aegean are now able to use various methods based on a well-established scientific framework and comparable data. This state-of-the-art interdisciplinary approach to Aegea…n ceramics produces a large amount of new and complex data, used by specialists and non-specialists for interpretations about socio-cultural phenomena. Therefore, the main aim of this conference volume is to bring together archaeometric experts and their scientific questions and data with traditional archaeological pottery analysis. This enables broader archaeological and cultural contextualisation within one particular geographical area and time horizon - the Early Bronze Age 1-2 periods (3000-2300 BC) on both sides of the Aegean. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
