Seit über 25 Jahren schreibt er unter anderem in seinem 400 Jahre alten Bauernhaus in der Toskana die Kolumnen für die Badische und Basler Zeitung sowie für den Feinschmecker. Außerdem hat er bereits an die 30 Bücher zu kulinarischen und Reisethemen, insbesondere über die Toskana, Provence, Elsass, Baden und Schwaben, veröffentlicht. Der erste Band setzt die Schwerpunkte in drei völlig gegensätzlichen Gegenden: Hong Kong, Marokko und London. Das dicke schwere Buch ist in 3 Ländern augeteilt. Eben in jene, welche bereits im Titel erscheinen. Das Buch wird unter den Arm geklemmt und dann verkriecht man sich am besten in eine stille Ecke - oder noch zusammen mit jenem anderen, der viel Spaß an guter und interessanter Küche hat. Nicht nur die Rezepte, die die Charakterstik der Länderküchen widergeben, sondern auch die vielen Bilder der Länder, Landschaften, Restaurants, Hotels und vor allem der Menschen reizen einen sofort, am nächsten Tag den Einkaufszettel neu zu schreiben. Normalerweise unterscheiden sich die Geschmäcker der verschiedenen Länder und deren Menschen, aber ich glaube, bei diesem Band gibt es einfach kein ' Gesichtverziehen ' - auf jeden Fall aber ein 'Ausprobieren-Wollen'. Ein Buch einfach zum Verschenken oder noch besser zum selber kaufen. Der Preis ist hoch, aber verständlich für den, der seine Nase in das Buch steckt. Vor meiner ersten Asienreise, die in Hongkong beginnt, gönne ich mir dieses Buch und bin sehr befriedigt über die Qualität der Photos, die ganze Konzeption, die Informationsvielfalt und -Auswahl. Das Buch ist eine Mischung aus Merian Reiseführer, Kochbuch und Kunstkatalog. Vergrößert meine Vorfreude auf die Reise ganz enorm und diese Chronik - da bin ich ganz sicher - werde ich auch nach meiner Reise hin und wieder durchschmökern, wenn ich es denn mal wiedersehe, Ausleih-Interessierte stehen schon Schlange.
