Here, the series is introduced as readers meet Polly & her family on their farm, Pebbly Pitt. In 308 pages, this 1922 hardcover was orig. published by Grosset & Dunlap. This is a Whitman edition (2318), with green cloth-covered boards lettered in black to front & spine, DJ cover art by H. S. Barbour (unattributed). Condition is Fair: downgraded due to dampstain to exterior fore edge that lightly intrudes into that margin on over half the pages. There is also a tiny area of insect damage appearing as a hole close to spine thru about page 25. Else, the book is generally quite clean & unmarked save for former owner's name & date to ffep. Unclipped DJ is also Fair: bright & colorful with light soil, dampstain to rear, rubbing to extremities, & chipping at corners/spine tips; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover Free! Moderate shelf/edge wear, soiling and chipping to original and unclipped DJ, (large chip missing from front panel) spine darkened on DJ - now in mylar. No previous owner markings - all pages are clean and crisp. This is the fourteenth book in the Roy Blakeley series. Illustrated by H. S. Barbour and cover art by Thomas Clarity. Percy Keese Fitzhugh (September 7, 1876 ? July 5, 1950) was an American author of nearly 100 books for children and young adults. The bulk of his work, having a Boy Scouting theme, revolves around the fictional town of Bridgeboro, New Jersey. Major characters included Tom Slade, Pee-Wee Harris, Roy Blakeley, and Westy Martin. Each of these characters had their own, distinctly different, series of books. Scarce. Very respectable First Edition in original DJ. Mattson #51100.LOC SSS-09.
