Luessenhop, a pioneer in the field of Interventional Neuro-radiology and former Chief of Neurosurgery at Georgetown University Medical Center, died Saturday, February 21 at Lee Memorial Hospital. He was 83 years old and a resident of Bonita Bay. At the age of 36, he began his tenure as Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at Georgetown Medical Center and served for 34 years until 1991, when he retired. He remained a professor at the University, largely consulting. He was one of the longest sitting chairs at the Center, and early in his career there he developed the academic residency training program in neurosurgery.
