Barber, he engaged in the work of giving instruction in the Sabbath school of colored children belonging to the Rev. Mr. Jecelyn's congregation. This was in his junior year. In this school he continued during the whole time of his residence in New Haven. It was also his custom to go out with the same companion among the neighborhoods of colored families in and around New Haven. From a pocket Bible, which he always carried, he read to them prayed with them, and, whenever a proper opportunity presented itself, urged the parents to send their children to the Sabbath school.'
