Orange cloth boards with decorative black title panel and pale blue stamped accents. Light shelfwear with minor rubbing to front board, otherwise clean and well-preserved. Interior pages bright, crisp, and unmarked, with Jungnickel's charming woodland drawings throughout. Contains a mid-century illustrated bookplate on the front pastedown ("Jack & Jimmy Rees, 2/25/57"). Also includes the original Bobbs-Merrill promotional blurb affixed to the rear endpaper with the printed price of $2.50. A tight, attractive example of this scarce early work by Salten, connecting to the same imaginative natural world as Bambi.
