Aggiungi al carrelloComic. Condizione: As New. 1st Edition. Comic - 1st. Print (October 1972) (VF) - In "Hawks from the Sea!", It doesn't take long for Conan to rub the crew of Prince Yezdigerd's ship the wrong way, and he soon gets involved in a brawl with a short-tempered soldier named Balthaz. Prince Yezdigerd, impressed by Conan, tells the barbarian his plan to invade Makkalet. Yezdigerd's ship meets with the Turanian fleet and joins with the assault on the city. The high priest of Makkalet, Kharam-Akkad, has some secret plans to save the city, and to that end is subtly taking control of the city from its weak king. As Balthaz leads Yezdigerd's troops into the city, Kharam unleashes his secret weapon, nine giant undead warriors! They slaughter the Taranian troops but Balthaz and Fafnir escape by climbing the walls toward the priest. Fafnir is felled by an arrow and Conan risks his life to reach his companion, but, other than pulling the arrow free, realizes he can do nothing. He does, however, notice that one of the giants seems to be a focal point for the other eight, so he climbs back down into the fray. He doesn't see Fafnir groggily roll over and fall from the wall into the ocean. Conan confronts the central zombie, caving its head in with his mace, and is satisfied to see all of the other giants crumble as well. The monsters dissolve, as does the magical amulet that Kharam was using to control the undead, and the Taranian forces take the eastern wall. WINDSOR-SMITH, BARRY (illustratore). …

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: As New. Condizione sovraccoperta: None, As Issued. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 42 pages. Published in 1996. Retrospective collection of short stories, presented as an Artist Book. The single most beautifully produced book of Robert Olen Butler's work. Deluxe Cased Edition of 26 lettered and signed copies. Precedes and should not be confused with the Limited Edition of 250 numbered and signed copies. There is no ISBN. The Deluxe Edition is now rare. An exquisite production by Dwight Agner: Regular-sized volume format. Hand-marbled pictorial boards with brown cloth overboards and gilt titles on the spine, as issued. Short stories by Robert Olen Butler. Three engravings by Barry Moser. Handmade case and matching box by Kannex Fung. Printed on Twinrocker Yale handmade paper by Wisteria Press of Decatur to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in its ultimate collectible format, Robert Olen Butler's "Coffee, Cigarettes, And A Run In The Park". The title refers to specific narrative details of the stories. The author's first short story, "Moving Day", is supplemented with two more early pieces: "Salem" and "Missing". The luxurious production of this volume cannot be improved upon: It fittingly memorializes Robert Olen Butler's earliest works for posterity. By his own admission, "Moving Day" (1974) was "the only good piece of short fiction I wrote in the first seventeen years of my career". He now has one of the most distinguished bodies of work among American writers to speak of. This book is his tender remembrance of two fundamental aspects of his career: First, his Vietnam memories and experiences, which find their fullest expression in his Pulitzer Prize-winning, "A Good Scent From A Strange Mountain". Second, when and how he found his literary voice, which he asserts always comes from one's unconscious (rather than one's intellect). An absolute "must-have" title for Robert Olen Butler collectors. This is a copy of the Deluxe Cased Edition of 26 lettered and signed copies, indicated as such on the Back Limitation Page: Letter "O". It is very boldly and beautifully signed in black fountain pen by Robert Olen Butler. It is also very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen by Barry Moser. The latter contributed three lovely engravings that are laid-in, all signed on recto by Barry Moser. This title is a great collection. This is one of very few copies of the Deluxe Edition still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare signed set thus. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize For Literature for "A Good Scent From A Strange Mountain" in 1993. One of the most brilliant writers of our time. A fine collectible set. (SEE ALSO OTHER ROBERT OLEN BUTLER TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). Signed by Author.…

Aggiungi al carrelloThe six items in fair condition, with light signs of age and wear. The four letters all with Morley's expansive signature ('Sheridan Morley'). The first letter (9 March 1970) begins: 'It seems a long time (indeed it is) since I used to buy books from your shop in St Martin's Court; but I thought I'd try to re-establish contact with you because I have started - in a very small way - to sell theatre and film books myself in the basement of James and Pauline Scudamore's secondhand bookshop in the Earl's Court Road.' In a long letter (2pp., 8vo) on 16 May he writes that he would be 'delighted to take over as much of your remaining stock as I can afford, and you want to dispose of', but 'with a son of 2 and another baby imminent' he can 'only afford to make the bookselling a part-time career; most of my work is done as an interviewer for BBC television, and the arrangement I have with the Scudamores is an ideal one for me in that I have one room of their shop to call my own, but when I am not there (ie about 3 days of the week) they "caretake" it for me and people buying books pay for them at their desk upstairs'. He continues with an explanation of the arrangements. Morley ends the letter with a promise to 'pass on yours to Pauline, James and my godfather Sewell'. In the third letter (15 May) he explains that he has been 'out of London filming for the BBC', but that he would be interested in the items Duncan offers, but will have difficulty raising the £80 cost ('not that I question your valuation, merely that we are under-capitalised'). He offers to visit Duncan in Southampton to discuss the matter further. The telegram (28 May) attempts to change the date of the visit. The last letter (1 June) regards payment through a money order. The carbon copy of Duncan's letter (2pp., 4to) is dated 14 March 1970, is signed, and discusses Morley's proposal in detail.…
