Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book critically examines The Ontario Institution for the Education of the Blind (OIEB), its administration, policies, and its disastrous impact on young blind people in Ontario, Canada in the early 20th century. The author, a former pupil, was shocked by the conditions he witnessed during his time at the school and sought to expose the institution's rampant mismanagement and systemic abuse. He argues that the OIEB failed to provide a proper education and safe environment for its students, leading to severe emotional and psychological harm. The book provides a detailed account of the author's personal experiences and observations and draws on interviews with other former students and staff to reveal a culture of fear, neglect, and abuse that persisted for years. It also examines the broader social and historical context of the treatment of blind people in this era, shedding light on the prevailing attitudes and prejudices that contributed to the OIEB's failures. Ultimately, this book is a powerful indictment of a flawed institution and an urgent call for reform, highlighting the importance of accountability, transparency, and the protection of vulnerable individuals in educational settings. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
