An excellent study of the General Sherman's central Mississippi campaign by Margie Bearss (1925-2006), the wife of Edwin C. Bearss (1923-2020) who started his National Park Service career as Vicksburg National Military Park historian before rising to the agency's chief historian from 1981 to 1994 and thereafter being appointed as chief historian emeritus. {CivilWarShelf-#3}.
