Forberg. Besorgt und herausgegeben von Fr. Wolff-Untereichen. Mit einem sexualwissenschaftlichen Kommentar von Dr. Alfred Kind. 4to. pp. xlviii+421. Hermaphroditus is a collection of licentious verse written in Latin about 1420 and first published at Venice in 1553. In 1824 Karl Friedrich Forberg published a German translation of this, together with a commentary, or Apophoreta, of even greater indecency that the original Latin work. It is, nevertheless, a work of great scholarship and draws extensively on Latin and Greek literature. Much curious information will be found here. The present edition is facsimile reprint (and a very good one) of the edition published at Leipzig by Adolf Weigel in 1908. Imitation parchment boards, gilt, head- and tail-bands. A fine copy. …

Sprache: Latein. Dieses Exemplar stammt aus der Bibliothek von Peter Amelung (Württembergische Landesbibliothek Stuttgart). // The cover is rubbed, especially at the corners and edges, otherwise it is a good copy with only slight signs of wear. Text-clean and from a non smoking environment. The pages are somewhat browned, mainly in the printing area, in keeping with the age and paper. First German edition of this collection of obscene and satirical epigrams by ancient authors written by the Palermo-based humanist Antonio Beccadelli (1394-1471). The critical comments of the philosopher and philologist Friedrich Karl Forberg make up about half of this edition and turned it into a handbook of classical erotology about sexual life in classical antiquity in its most diverse variations, which meant that the work only became known in wider circles. Language: Latin. la Privater späterer Halblederband (um 1900).…
