Revised edition (i.e. second edition updating original book issued October 1927). 279 pages. Hardcover: H 31.75cm x L 24.25cm. No dust jacket (i.e. lacking). Brown cloth well toned and soiled; some cloth loss at frayed spine ends; boards' beveled edges worn at corners. Birmingham, Alabama artist Max Heldman's copy with his ink signature at top of front free endpaper (book acquired directly from the estate of his son Alan Wohl Heldman). Studio Book Shop, Birmingham, Alabama bookseller ticket at ffep's bottom left. Toning/foxing, soiling, and some stains to interior leaves. Binding shaken at front hinge and at book center between plates 88-89 and 104-105 with that interlaying quire slightly pulled. Only a good copy at best. LoC catalog cites their 1927 edition has only having 254 pages so evidently this second edition has some notable additions/revisions. Please note that this large book has an approximate shipping weight of 5 pounds (2.26 kg) and may require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail.

All dynamics of early twentieth-century America fill Bellows's canvases and prints. Bellows studied at the New York School of Art under Robert Henri and became one of the leading artists of the Ashcan school. His technical brilliance and vibrant realism were celebrated from early in his career, and at the age of twenty-six he became one of the youngest artists ever to be elected to the National Academy of Design in New York. Bellows exhibited often, to great acclaim, and completed many significant commissions, achieving a powerfully impressive body of work before his sudden death in his early forties. This book brings together the most important works of Bellows's short but prolific career, combining them with an in-depth biography of the artist.
