The continued dependence of the United States on imported… oil was a matter of increasing concern. A study was conducted to examine long-term issues related to oil dependence. Major issues addressed were: energy efficiency and the role of new technologies, fuel switching, and regional factors affecting fuel use. The study examined all major end-use sectors in the economy, covering the industrial, commercial, residential, transportation, and electric utility sectors.
