The Pavilion examines both the history and the contemporary state of pavilion architecture, something of a niche genre in the field, but with a long history of masterpieces. It consists of two parts: first, the examination of a group of twentieth-century pavilions, and second, a collection of essays that survey historical and more recent examples. This outstanding analysis was produced by students of architecture at Frankfurt's Stdelschule. In the theoretical section, well-known authors discuss the materials used in pavilions, starting with influences from the Orient, India and Asia, and moving on to significant twentieth-century pavilions and recent temporary buildings that seem to occupy a space between art and architecture. In addition, the book documents the research and development of a summer pavilion for the garden at the Deutsches Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt produced by the offices of Barkow Leibinger and Werner Sobek.

Hardcover. Condizione: Used - Very Good. UN Studio is the innovative firm founded by Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos, two Dutch designers creating some of the most ambitious and celebrated architecture of their generation. Fluidity and flexibility are hallmarks of UN Studio projects, and many of these projects have literally reinvented a number of standard building types, such as power stations, museums, bridges, transportation hubs, and live-work residences (including one based on a Mobius strip). UN Studio projects fuse a sophisticated understanding of digital design with a formal and material exploration that has ensured that their work reaches far beyond the 'supermodernism' associated with other Dutch firms. This book presents the firm's complete body of work, including several major projects in Germany (Mercedes-Benz Museum, Stuttgart), Italy (Pierodi Pier, Genoa harbor), Switzerland (Hotel Castell, Zuoz), Korea (Galleris Hallin, Seoul) and many in the Netherlands. wrapped in complimentary Brodart dust jacket protector. Very nice clean, tight copy free of any marks.

In these rapidly changing times, we are increasingly embracing change and innovation; we deviate, modify, shift and pivot to challenge long-accepted norms. Transformation is everywhere, at all times. Transformation is also the central topic in the architectural profession and the built environment. It can be evidenced in concepts and ideas, in awareness, appearance, form, character, nature or culture. This year, the Zumtobel Group commissioned the international architecture practice UNStudio to create their annual report for 2021/2022, adding to the Austrian lighting company's unique oeuvre of yearly published art books. As a collaboration with graphic design duo Bloemendaal and Dekkers, this year's publication presents a design reflection on the theme of transformation. Using illustrations drawn from the work of UNStudio over the past thirty years, the book presents a visual investigation into the creative process, and demonstrates how ideas and concepts are developed by the practice into physical form. Through a similar thought process, the book itself is designed to undergo its own metamorphosis.
