Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. First. A satire of British royalty, purported written by a fictitious Benjamin Bunny. Laurence Housman (1865 1959) was an English playwright, writer and illustrator. He studied art in London and worked largely as an illustrator during the first years of his career, before shifting focus to writing. He was a younger brother of the poet A. E. Housman and his sister and fellow activist in the women's suffrage movement was writer/illustrator Clemence Housman. This copy is near fine in purple cloth with gilt titles on the spine. Bumped corners and slightly age toned endpapers are the only issues. The binding is quite solid. The clipped dust jacket spine is sun darkened, and the jacket overall shows slight soiling and a bit of edge chipping. Otherwise no marks or damage. It is inscribed by Housman to the noted collector Herbert M. Meyer on the front flyleaf and dated 1930. Herbert Marx Meyer (1903-1988) was a noted Detroit book collector who assembled a large collection of early 20th century literature. He corresponded with many of the authors of the time, and thus many of his books bear friendly and warm authorial inscriptions. . PO25.
