Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine condition. First Edition Thus. Newark, New Jersey: Office of the Newark Daily Advertiser, 1835. Near Fine condition. Clean, square, and tight. Sharp corners. 4.25" wide by 7" tall. Facsimile reproduction of the First Edition. Title page is dated 1835, but this is actually a facsimile, circa 1950s. Published for the Compiler, at the Office of the Newark Daily Advertiser (but actually printed by the Osborne Co. Clifton, NJ). Consists of a 24 page HISTORICAL SKETCH OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY; 102 page Newark City Directory; and 3 pages of period ads. According to Felcone's NEW JERSEY BOOKS 1800-1860, item 572, this is the first Newark directory and the first directory of a New Jersey city. He says the work was compiled by William W. Moulton and Benjamin Thompson Pierson with Rev. Charles G. Halsey possibly being the author of the HISTORICAL SKETCH. Six hundred copies of the original were published. This facsimile reproduction is quite convincing, right down to simulated foxing on the pages. The binding is also a close imitation of the original tan paper-covered boards and undecorated tan roan spine. However, the spine on this reproduction is brown cloth, not leather. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Near Fine condition. 24pp; 102pp; 3pp.
