Manoscritto / Collezionismo cartaceo Prima edizione
Condizione: Very good. First Edition. Small menu for October 11, 1911; single card stock sheet, folded, 5 x 3 1/2; pp. [4]; embossed and illustrated in gilt, green, and white; light wear and age-toning to margins; in very good condition. The Poodle Dog Restaurants were a succession of French establishments in San Francisco, tracing their origins to the Gold Rush. Initially offering simple French meals to the gold prospectors, by 1868 it would become the epitome of opulence, luxury, and extravagant food. It would also be frequently embroiled in scandals, accused of briberies of officials and of providing "private dining rooms" for discreet affairs to the San Francisco elite on the upper floors of its building. After the 1906 Earthquake demolished most of it, the proprietors of Frank's Restaurant (owned by Louis Coutard and Camille Mailhebuau), Bergez's Restaurant (owned by John Bergez), and the Old Poodle Dog (owned by J. B. Pon and Calixte Lalanne) merged and formed the Bergez and Frank's Old Poodle Dog. The Prohibition would deal it a "finishing blow" and it would close its doors in April of 1922.
