Reproduction of a woodblock print of well-known German type designer and calligrapher Rudolf Koch (1876-1934), by New York City artist Bernard Brussel-Smith (1914-1989). Measuring 4.25" x 6" on a 7.5" x 9" piece of glossy paper. Light foxing on front, verso toned, with four pieces of tape where it was once taped into a matte, very good. Most likely a plate from a book or a keepsake. Facsimile signature and title beneath. Perfect inspirational portrait to pin on the typographer's studio wall.

Engraving of an eye in the upper right hand corner by Bernard Brussel-Smith. Broadside. A Midsummer Night's Press was founded in New Haven CT in 1991 Hand-printing on a letterpress, it published broadsides of poems by Nancy Willard, Joe Halderman, and Jane Yolen, among others, in signed, limited editions of 126 copies, numbered 1-100 and lettered A-Z. In 1993, the publisher moved to NY and the press went into hiatus. Given it's short life time we have been unable to determine how many copies of this broadside made it into circulation.

One of 100 copies, Advertises an exhibition held at the Fairleigh Dickinson University Library on the Florham-Madison Campus in Madison, New Jersey, celebrating the American wood engraver Bernard Brussel-Smith, widely known for his posters of the New York Auto Shows of the 1950's and 1960's. The broadside features a large portrait print of Brussel-Smith which is typical of his direct style through the use of heavy black lines. Very attractive.

Unbound. Condizione: Fine. Wood engraving. 4.5" x 6.25", image size approximately 2.5" x 5". Tipped onto a matte, else just about fine. Signed in pencil in the lower right. Brussel-Smith, who was born in Greenwich Village in 1914, became one of America's foremost wood engravers. His work is held in numerous permanent international collections and museums.
