Vintage 1932, First Edition, 2nd Printing. Illustrated black boards/NF w/light rubs to leading edges. DJ/None. Illustrated endpapers. Discolored PO label to front cover verso. Novella. Written in 1932 while visiting South Africa by Irish playwright & 1925 Nobel winner Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950) w/engravings from John Farleigh (1900 - 1965). 75 pgs. Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition First Printing. A satirical later work by Shaw in which a young, innocent black girl "wanders out into the world to find the God mentioned in her Bible." Highly controversial not only for its text, but for the original woodcut illustrations by John Farleigh, which were shockingly sexual & considered blasphemous. In 75 pages, with Farleigh endpapers as well. Clipped review from the Sunday Times dated 18 Dec 1932 laid in. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 1932, this hardcover has black paper-covered boards with white lettering & a Farleigh design to front/lettering to spine. Condition is VG: completely clean & unmarked save for former owner's name in small pen to verso of second front free endpaper. Very mild page tanning. Stitched binding is strong & straight, hinges secure. Exterior shows rubbing to extremities, heaviest along spine, with slight loss (.50") at head, bumping to all corners. NO DJ, as issued.
