Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a fascinating exploration of early American hook rugs, objects that have fallen out of favor, relegated to dust collection in attics or trunks. Once a common craft, hook rug making began to decline as the 20th century progressed, as it was seen as outdated and no long…er fashionable. Inspired by his travels and a chance encounter at a historical mansion, the author delves into the history of hook rugs, detailing their significance to American history. Through archival research and interviews with rug owners, the author paints a vivid picture of the lives of early Americans, their surrounding environments, and their motivations for creating this beautiful and practical form of floor covering. The book discusses various types of hook rugs, including floral, tile, and animal motifs, and explores the symbolism and stories behind these designs, reflecting the cultural and regional influences that shaped their creation. This book offers a unique perspective on American history, revealing the rich artistic traditions and daily lives of early Americans through the lens of this humble craft. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
