Februar 1896 in Wien; gestorben 8. Dezember 1938 in Nervi bei Genua) war ein Schweizer Schriftsteller. Er gilt als einer der ersten deutschsprachigen Krimiautoren. Schriftsteller zu sein, hiess für Friedrich Glauser zunächst, Gedichte zu schreiben. In der lyrischen Form glaubte er, sein inneres Erleben ausdrücken zu können. Vorbilder waren für ihn Mallarmé und Trakl; der Ton entspricht dem expressionistischen Tenor der Zeit am Ende des Ersten Weltkrieges. Doch keiner dieser Texte wurde gedruckt. Für die Sammlung seiner Gedichte, die Glauser 1920 zusammenstellte, fand sich kein Verleger. Gedichte Glausers wurden erst postum veröffentlicht. In den letzten drei Lebensjahren schrieb Glauser fünf Kriminalromane, in deren Mittelpunkt Wachtmeister Studer steht, ein eigensinniger Kriminalpolizist mit Verständnis für die Gestrauchelten. Glauser ist nach der Auffassung von Erhard Jöst "einer der wichtigsten Wegbereiter des modernen Kriminalromans". Seine Romane und drei weitere Bände mit Prosatexten wurden zwischen 1936 und 1945 veröffentlicht. Ab 1937 wurde der 1928-30 geschriebene Fremdenlegionsroman Gourrama in der linken Wochenzeitung ABC bis zu deren Einstellung 1938 abgedruckt, 1940 vom Schweizer Druck- und Verlagshaus als Buch herausgegeben.
