Subsequently, but especially after the Turkish financial crisis of 2001 and the AKP electoral win of 2002, Turkish economy boomed. Until 2015, GDP more than tripled, the economic structure changed (from agricultural to service sector dominated) and economic relevance increased, what is illustrated e.g. by the admittance in G20. This economic boom is accompanied by AKP's domestic political transformation (conservatism and moderate Islamisation) as well as the rising orientation to the region (Middle East, Northern Africa and Caucasus).Turkey became a regional player with high geostrategic ambitions. This is illustrated also by an alienation of the EU. This work adumbrates the general Turkish development before 1999 and outlines the development since 1999 (both political and economic).

On the one hand this is the Polish King John III Sobieski, who rushed to Vienna with a 'multinational' European army to relief the city and on the other hand this is the Ottoman Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa, who for his rushed to Vienna before - with an army that was possibly not less 'multinational' than the Sobieski's ones. The historic relevance of these both figures and their opposing conduct, perception and legacy is the topic of this paper.

Schwerpunkt dieses 'Türkenfiebers' war der Zeitraum von 1900 bis 1918. Dabei gab es verschiedene Gründe und Motivationen für deutsche Bürger, die türkische Sprache zu lernen. Die historischen Hintergründe, die Entwicklungen und Gründe für das Türkisch-Lernen und die zu der Zeit zum Spracherwerb üblichen Methoden und Werke, aber auch die auftretenden Probleme aufzuzeigen, sind Inhalt der Arbeit.Insbesondere durch die deutsche Politik und den persönlichen Wunsch Kaiser Wilhelms II. kam es zu einer Annäherung an das Osmanische Reich. Insgesamt dreimal reiste er während seiner Regentschaft ins Osmanische Reich, zweimal vor Kriegsbeginn, 1889 und 1898, und äußerte dabei schon das Ziel, die muslimische Welt gegen England und Frankreich zu mobilisieren und dabei langfristig besonders Großbritannien zu schwächen.

Schwerpunkt dieses 'Türkenfiebers' war der Zeitraum von 1900 bis 1918. Dabei gab es verschiedene Gründe und Motivationen für deutsche Bürger, die türkische Sprache zu lernen. Die historischen Hintergründe, die Entwicklungen und Gründe für das Türkisch-Lernen und die zu der Zeit zum Spracherwerb üblichen Methoden und Werke, aber auch die auftretenden Probleme aufzuzeigen, sind Inhalt der Arbeit. Insbesondere durch die deutsche Politik und den persönlichen Wunsch Kaiser Wilhelms II. kam es zu einer Annäherung an das Osmanische Reich. Insgesamt dreimal reiste er während seiner Regentschaft ins Osmanische Reich, zweimal vor Kriegsbeginn, 1889 und 1898, und äußerte dabei schon das Ziel, die muslimische Welt gegen England und Frankreich zu mobilisieren und dabei langfristig besonders Großbritannien zu schwächen.GRIN Publishing GmbH, Waltherstraße 23, 80337 München 52 pp. Deutsch.
