Language groups mapped include the Austroasiatic [separate maps show usages in continental Southeast Asia, Madagascar, Taiwan, Sumatra, Java, Bali, Borneo, Celebes (Sulawesi), Moluccas (Maluku)], Thai, Chinese, Tibeto-Burman (East), Tibeto-Burman (West), Karen and Miao-Yao. The team identified and mapped the usage of three words, common to every language on the planet, as key indicators of language location ('dog', 'tooth', 'salt').
