Es geht um die unglaubliche Anpassungsfähigkeit des Bernt Spiegel Menschen, die solchen Werkzeuggebrauch überhaupt erst möglich macht und die auf seiner Fähigkeit beruht, neue Verhaltensprogramme zu erwerben und Automatismen aufzubauen. Hier geht ein Verhaltensforscher vor dem Hintergrund der Entwicklungsgeschichte an den Werkzeuggebrauch des Menschen heran. Das Motorrad steht dabei als Beispiel für menschliche Werkzeuge schlechthin. Insofern geht das Buch weit über das Motorradfahren hinaus. Es betrifft ebenso den Autofahrer, aber nicht nur diesen, sondern auch den Golfspieler, den Skiläufer, den Segelflieger, den Pianisten, eigentlich alle, die mit einem Gerät umgehen, das sich immer vollkommener und schließlich virtuos handhaben läßt. Freilich ist es gerade der Motorradfahrer, der hier zu ganz neuen Einsichten gelangen kann und dazu noch zu äußerst nützlichen Hinweisen für Training und Praxis. Daß der Autor in der Praxis ebenso zu Hause ist, hat ihm, dem Senior unter den Instruktoren des MOTORRAD-Perfektionstrainings auf dem Nürburgring, die amerikanische Motorradzeitschrift Cycle bescheinigt: >>Bernt Spiegel, ein Universitätsprofessor, der eine wunderschöne Bimota fuhr, schnell und mit einer fast körperlosen Geschmeidigkeit, hielt einen Vortrag über die Einheit von Fahrer und Maschine.<< Über letzteres ist hier noch viel genauer nachzulesen.
