Edition originale en librairie de cette volumineuse thèse sur le choléra et s…es complications, en particulier nerveuses et cardio-vasculaires.Jules Besnier (1836-1909) exerça comme chirurgien de la marine avant d'être reçu docteur en médecine avec cette thèse. Il venait de terminer son internat des hôpitaux de Paris. Il fut interne à l'hôpital Saint-Louis dans un service spécial de cholériques (dirigé par Bazin) lors de l'épidémie de 1865. Il fut ensuite interne à l'Hôtel-Dieu où il put suivre" les principales phases de la seconde épidémie". Il devint membre de la Société anatomique, de la Société médicale d'émulation et de la Société de médecine de Paris.
