Prepared by the technical staff of the National Development Company under the supervision of the Detroit-based H. E. Beyster Corporation, the comprehensive survey served as a blueprint for rebuilding the Philippine economy in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War and the nation's newly granted independence in 1946.Recognizing the massive infrastructural devastation caused by the Pacific War, the Philippine government commissioned the Beyster Corporation to assess the archipelago's resources and chart a path toward modernization. The resulting plan advocated a dramatic shift from a colonial economy reliant on exporting raw materials to a diversified, industrialized domestic market. It detailed sweeping proposals for investments in power generation, mining, agriculture, fisheries, and manufacturing. To visualize these ambitious goals, the report includes highly specialized cartography, notably a striking infographic map illustrating the proposed networks for new and rehabilitated industries, alongside detailed maps charting mineral localities and population estimates for 1947.Printed by the Benipayo Press of Manila.
