La principal zona de curtición se encuentra en Hazaribagh, en Dhaka. Dado que no se han adoptado medidas de precaución y protección desde el principio, la condición ambiental de la zona de Hazaribagh se ha venido deteriorando durante muchos años. Neuware -L'industrie du cuir est l'une des industries d'exportation du Bangladesh, qui gagne aujourd'hui en importance économique et industrielle. La migration de l'activité de tannage du cuir des pays développés vers les pays en développement…au cours des quatre dernières décennies a également contribué à l'augmentation de cette activité manufacturière. La principale zone de tannerie se trouve à Hazaribagh, à Dhaka. Étant donné que des mesures de précaution et de protection n'ont pas été prises dès le début, l'état de l'environnement de la région de Hazaribagh se détériore depuis de nombreuses années. Le gouvernement a donc lancé un projet de délocalisation des industries de la tannerie de Hazaribagh vers une nouvelle zone située à Savar. Mais ce projet de délocalisation s'avère vain en raison de la réticence des propriétaires de tanneries à déménager et en termes de rentabilité et de menace potentielle pour l'environnement de la nouvelle zone.
