Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for old price sticker on the front wrap. Book Condition: Very Good; light rubbing to edges and wraps; small stain on rear wrap. No DJ. Pictorial card stock wraps. Wraps are not bent or folded; spine is secure in saddle staples; text is secure in binding. 39 pp 8vo. This book is a giant collection of Southern Superstitions that involve signs, cards, beliefs, dreams, intrigue, portents, wishing, tokens, weather, planting, marriage, omens and love. A nice biography of Bil is included by Lewis Green of the Ashville Citizen-Times. A clean very presentable copy.

A "dictionary" of words as they would be pronounced with a deep Southern drawl; for example: "HOLE: You can get a marryin' licence at city hole", "HAIL": the year-'round residence of the Devil; "DOUGH:What you openif someone knocks, i.e. 'Go see who's at the front dough."---you get the idea. The second part of the pamphlet is a listing of words and terms with a "Southern Highland & Coastal Dialect" (eg: "ANIGH: Don't come anigh me."; APPLE PEELER: "pocketknife"; GRAVY: grease from fried pork; red eye gravy from fried smoked ham"; "KICK THE CAT: to become angry" (agin, y'll git the point).
