Biographic Memoirs Volume 56 contains the biographies of deceased members of the National Academy of Sciences and bibliographies of their published works. Each biographical essay was written by a member of the Academy familiar with the professiona…l career of the deceased. There is no other copy of this book for sale anywhere on the Internet. Unsurprisingly, it came from the library of the renowned sociologist, Daniel Bell. Mr. Bell did not write his name in this book. Here is the beginning of Mr. Lazarfeld's Wikipedia profile: 'Paul Felix Lazarsfeld (February 13, 1901-- August 30, 1976) was an Austrian-American sociologist. The founder of Columbia University's Bureau of Applied Social Research, he exerted influence over the techniques and the organization of social research. "It is not so much that he was an American sociologist," one colleague said of him after his death, "as it was that he determined what American sociology would be." Lazarsfeld said that his goal was "to produce Paul Lazarsfelds." The two main accomplishments he is associated with can be analyzed within two lenses of analysis: research institutes, methodology, as well as his research content itself. He was a founding figure in 20th-century empirical sociology.' Positively, there isn't much to say about the condition of the book. The pages are perfectly clean and free of any conspicuous wear. No soiling, , no markings, no attachments, and no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. The covers, as you can see from the photos, are free of soiling. There is some light toning off the margins of the front cover. There is a very light crease at the bottom corner of the rear cover. On the rear side of the last page, if you look at it from just the right angle, you can see any event lighter line of the same crease. There are no other semi or other creases to be found anywhere in the book.

Originally printed in 1852, which was part of a contemplated larger work but was abandoned from lack of encouragement (Howes). the 1906 edition was expanded and re-titled.
