Ce cinquième tome clôt la saga autobiographique romancée de Paul Biron, relatant l'expérience de guerre d'un jeune soldat belge et ancien prisonnier, narrée par son neveu. À travers un style hybride français-wallon, l'auteur offre une immersion vivante dans la Belgique de 1944, partiellement libérée mais encore marquée par les séquelles de l'occupation allemande. Le récit mêle anecdotes humoristiques et introspection historique, illustrant les tensions entre euphorie patriotique et traumatisme collectif. L'ouvrage se distingue par son écriture régionale et populaire, son regard lucide sur les résistances locales, et sa contribution à la mémoire wallonne de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Paul Biron (1920-1998), né à Seraing (Liège), officier du 12e de Ligne, est fait prisonnier en mai 1940. Inspiré par cette expérience, il écrit, en français et wallon, la série «Mon mononke Désiré». Très populaire en Wallonie dans les années 1970-1980, il mélange dans ses récits le français et le wallon liégeois; la saga débute en 1973 et compte neuf tomes.
