Until the arrival of the Portuguese in the Indian Ocean, trade with Europe from Asia proceeded via Constantinople. In 1511, Portuguese ships first reached the Spice Islands. However, Admiral Seidi Ali led Ottoman punitive expeditions against the sailors under Suleiman II and compiled his nautical and topographical experiences in… a nautical handbook in 1554, which is presented here in the first German translation In original wrappers, which are showing wear, tearing. Internally in near fine condition, but many pages in particular maps loose from binding. All 30 maps present.
