A l'heure ou nous nous sentons obliges d'en arriver a de pareilles proportions, entrent tout juste en service les six Danton, de 18 350 tonneaux; un si faible intervalle de temps suffit a nous imposer un accroissement de tonnage de 27 pour 100 ! Sur la poudriere avait paru une grande lueur subite. Le gaz s'eteignit dans les azrues partout a la fois, jusque dans Toulon. Un immense nuage de fumee noire et fetide plongea dans une obscurite profonde tout le quartier de Lagoubran d'ou s'echappaient des cris et des gemissements etouffes. La poudriere venait de sauter, avec 180 000 kilos d'explosifs.
