Hardcover. Condizione: NF. Condizione sovraccoperta: NF. 1st. The idea of the Parramatta Soroptimists Club compiling a history of their city was formed during the Australian bi-centennial year of 1988 but gathering the material, from a large number of contributors, meant that the book was not published until 1992. Formed in 1788…, as Rose Hill, what was later to become Parramatta, was one of the earliest settlements of New South Wales, which gave it the subsidiary name of "Cradle City of Australia", which is included in the book's sub-title. The objective was to tell the story, largely through the experiences of veteran residents, and to "incorporate all facets of life from babyhood through to school days, courting and marriage" according to the editor's preface. (She also provided many of the chapters.) As well as those factors the book covers all other community aspects, ranging over business, industry, civic affairs, immigration, education, clubs, organisations and recreation, to name a few. A well presented and produced history, signed by Rosslyn Blay title page verso. 192 pages, b/w photos throughout, some art, colour frontis. Blue hard covers appear NF, but the clear sheet protective covering for the DJ is taped to both pastedowns, text block NF, no inscriptions. Sepia pictorial DJ showing a panoroma of Parramatta 1904 is NF. That illustration is continued on both flaps. Photos, Art (illustratore). By Editor.
