The biography o Wallis Warfield Simpson, the woman who married the British King Edward VIII and story of the Abdication. From the jacket flap, "Like all good biographies, this one begin with Wallis Warfield's early life - her Baltimore girlhood and the marriages to Messrs, Spencer and Simpson. But the major part of the book, and naturally the most fascinating, is the whole story of the Abdication crisis which catapulted her to fame, or infamy, depending on the point of view, Mr. Bocca has revealed hitherto unknown factors, intrigues, political maneuvers and personal pressures which have long clouded this event. Here, for instance, is the story of the brick thrown through the window of a house in Regent's Park, a brick which decisively changed the whole sweep of Abdication events. The cast of characters - Baldwin, Churchill, Queen Mary, Edward VIII and , naturally, the Duchess herself - manipulating this moment of destiny is superb, and the reader cannot fail to be absorbed. Mr. Bocca's account of the subsequent life of the Windsors is made meaningful by his feeling that here was a woman who had all the qualities that make a great queen, sacrificed to ill-considered exigencies of state, or, perhaps, to whim and malice.".
