One of the most important and yet beautifully bound by the Grabhorn Press. John Van Deusen du Bois pictures the Southwest in the period just before the outbreak of the Civil War. He was a young graduate of West Point, and he learned the way of the rugged unforgiving landscape of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Colorado as a member of the Regiment of Mounted Riflemen (later the 3rd Cavalry). One of the most important accounts of the US Military in the West before the outbreak of the Civil War. Bound in 1/4red leather over decorative red and black paper covered boards, black leather label to spine gilt, large chip and stain to foot, some chipping to head, a few small spots of rubbing to boards, in its original clear acetate dust jacket.
