Der Sammler dieser Volksmärchen war August Bondeson, ein Arzt und Schriftsteller aus der Provinz Halland. Nachdem sein erstes Buch mit Märchen ausschließlich Erzählungen aus seiner Heimatprovinz enthalten hatte, die er zu einem bedeutenden Teil von seinem Vater gehört hatte, einem seinerzeit für sein Erinnerungsvermögen und seine Erzählkunst bekannten Schuhmacher und Sattler. Für sein zweites Märchenbuch, das hier nunmehr in deutscher Übersetzung vorgelegt wird, hatte er sein Sammelgebiet auf zehn Landschaften im südlichen Drittel Schwedens ausgedehnt. Allerdings stammt auch hier mit 41 Texten fast die Hälfte der 90 Geschichten aus Halland. Bei uns waren Bondesons Märchen bisher weitgehend unbekannt.
