September 2003.- "Der Anteil der Juden am Wiener Musikleben, sei es als aktive Künstler oder als Publikum, ist ein wesentlicher Aspekt der Geschichte der Musikstadt Wien. Dies wird anhand einiger Zahlen deutlich: 1881 geht das Ringtheater in Flammen auf. Über 900 Menschen kommen ums Leben, fast die Hälfte von ihnen ist jüdischen Glaubens. Jüdisch sind 1895 auch fast ein Drittel der Studenten in manchen Konservatoriums-Klassen. Musik ist für die Kinder der Einwanderer zu der Sprache der Assimilation geworden. Bald prägen jüdische Komponisten, Interpreten und Mäzene die Musikkultur Wiens entscheidend mit. Manche wie Mahler und Schönberg stoßen die Tür in die Moderne auf, andere wie Kálmán oder Oscar Straus schreiben mit ihren Operetten den Mythos der Musikstadt fest. Die Festwochenausstellung beleuchtet die eingangs skizzierten Entwicklungen, zeigt aber auch die Grenzen der Musik als Sprache der Assimilation auf. Sie dokumentiert die Vertreibung und Ermordung jüdischer Musiker zwischen 1938 und 1945, fragt nach deren Schaffen im Exil und fordert zu einem kritischen Rückblick auf die Musikstadt Wien seit 1945 heraus" (JMW).- Leichte Gebrauchsspuren, Seitenränder etwas vergilbt.…
