Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 192 / 5,000 In the Preface: "I have taken care to present in detail and clearly these great discoveries which raised chemistry, towards the end of the last century, to the rank of the most beautiful sciences." Bouchardat (1809-1886), Chief Pharmacist at the Hà tel-Dieu de Paris and later Professor of Hygiene at the Facultà de Mà decine. He is considered to be the founder of diabetology involving diabetic treatment of diabetes; He advocated use of the polarimeter for analyzing sugar in urine as diagnostic test. A work in two parts (inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry) in which the author describes the different known aspects of chemistry at the time, often with presentations of practical applications. Inorganic chemistry deals with general notions (note a chapter on atomic theory and the use of Berzelius' symbolism, two concepts of which the author was a follower, but which were rejected by the official French dogma of the time, and which show the liberties that certain authors took with regard to prominent scientists and official programs) then monographs on metalloids, non-metallic acids and oxides, hydracids (hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, .), metals, alloys, metal oxides, metal sulfides, salts in general, the most commonly used salts (including explosives), main applications (drinking water, silvering, electroplating, glass, precious stones, lime and cements, pottery .). The section on organic chemistry, after general notions (including a good question "How is it that a small number of elements can produce a very large number of organic compounds?") also describes monographs including: Organic acids, Plant alkalis (alkaloids including morphine, quinine), Essential oils, resins and fatty substances.
