Indeed, to improve the performance and the efficiency of these systems, these two techniques recently have been used jointly in new schemes named joint adaptive modulation and diversity combining (JAMDC) schemes. Considering the problem of finding lowcomplexity, bandwidth-efficient, and processing-power efficient transmission schemes for a downlink scenario and capitalizing on some of these recently proposed JAMDC schemes, we propose and analyze three fully joint adaptive modulation, diversity combining, and power control (FJAMDC) schemes. More specifically, the modulation constellation size, the number of combined diversity paths, and the needed power level are determined jointly to achieve the highest spectral efficiency with the lowest possible combining complexity, given the fading channel conditions and the required bit error rate (BER) performance. In this context, cognitive radio (CR) was proposed to address the existing spectrum scarcity and underutilization problems. Under the scenario of CR, spectrum sharing systems allow the coexistence of primary users (PUs) and secondary users (SUs) in the same spectrum as long as the interference from the secondary to the primary link stays below a given threshold. In this book, we propose a number of enabling transmission techniques aiming at improving the performance of the secondary link while satisfying the interference requirements set by the primary link. Focusing on the concepts of spatial modulation (SM) and space shift keying (SSK), the proposed techniques include combinations of power adaptation (PA), adaptive modulation (AM), transmit antenna selection (TAS), space-time block codes (STBC), and reconfigurable antennas (RAs). The traditional energy grid allows for one-way communication of energy usage between customers and utilities. This does not allow utilities to control or to suggest any changes in the consumption based on the obtained energy data. In this book, we design and implement innovative secure and reliable two-way communication between homes and the Utility. In this context, different houses communicate their energy usage, while an electric transformer relays action requests from the energy utility's headquarters. This enables the real-time tracking of energy usage by both consumers and the utility. Therefore, the efficiency of energy generation and distribution is enhanced, and consumers are empowered to make smarter decisions about their consumption. To this end, we develop and compare several machine Learning and Data Analytics models predicting energy consumption. The obtained results show that our proposed models perform better than existing ones for time-series energy forecasting. …
