The rear cover is foxed & there is some pink staining along its top & inner edges. 100 pages with the Boult discography on pages 17-20. Illustrated in black, white & orange with pictorial ads & photographic illustrations, including an EMI ad with a portrait, sending "Greetings to Sir Adrian Boult on the occasion of his 85th birthday (April 8)" and promoting his recording of Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem. Good. The magazine notes that the cover illustration portrays Sir Adian Boult on his 85th birthday on April 8 and that he conducts a concert of Howells, Elgar and Schumann at the Festival Hall on April 4.

Brought up in a prosperous mercantile family, he followed musical studies in England and at Leipzig, Germany, with early conducting work in L…ondon for the Royal Opera House and Sergei Diaghilev's ballet company. His first prominent post was conductor of the City of Birmingham Orchestra in 1924. When the British Broadcasting Corporation appointed him director of music in 1930, he established the BBC Symphony Orchestra and became its chief conductor. The orchestra set standards of excellence that were rivalled in Britain only by the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), founded two years later. Size is 185mm x 115mm. Condition is good.
